GEICO may insure a driver who causes your crash.

On the other hand, an uninsured driver may cause your crash and, you may have GEICO uninsured motorist (“UM”) insurance.

In either event, you may claim that the accident caused your hand or wrist injury.

Let’s look at some settlements with GEICO for hand or wrist injuries.

GEICO Pays Driver $125,000 for Hand Fracture from Car Crash

My client, Mr. Suarez (not real name), was driving his police car in Kendall, Miami-Dade County, Florida.  He was responding to an emergency call.

A driver failed to yield the right of way.  She crashed into his car.

A photo of the intersection is at the top of this article.  The photo below shows that damage to his car.

The orthopedic surgeon who operated on Mr. Suarez’s hand said that he did not have a permanent injury.  GEICO initially offered $80,000 to settle this case.

We rejected their offer.  We had pre-suit mediation at my office.

Geico adjuster Mable O’Neal attended pre-suit mediation.  (She is a nice person.)

We settled the case for $125,000.  I think that GEICO made a fair offer.

My client was an employee of the Miami-Dade county police department.  He was hurt while working.

Thus, he received workers compensation benefits.  His employer paid 66 2/3 of his lost wages and all of his accident related medical bills.

Since my client hired an attorney (me), his employer was required to reduce its lien by my attorney’s fees and costs.  This resulted in a $12,000 or so reduction in their workers compensation lien.

I then got State Farm to use my client’s PIP to pay a big part of the workers’ compensation lien.

GEICO Pays $10,000 for Wrist Fracture and Other Injury

A car ran a bike rider off the road in North Miami, Florida.  The bike rider fell off his bike.  The car drove off.

The bicyclist fractured his wrist and elbow.  The bike rider had a $10,000 uninsured motorist insurance policy with GEICO.

If a car runs you off the road and leaves the scene in Florida, then the car is considered “uninsured“.  This is true even if the car doesn’t touch you.

GEICO paid us the $10,000 limits of my client’s uninsured motorist insurance.
