NBC6 Interview About the Miami, Florida Bridge Collapse that Killed 6 People
On August 14, 2018, attorney Justin “JZ” Ziegler was interviewed by NBC6’s Tony Pipitone. The interview was about the FIU bridge lawsuits.
Travelers Insurance insured the FIU bridge engineer. The victims families sued the bridge engineer.
Shortly thereafter, Travelers sued the bridge engineer and several personal representatives of the estates of the people who were killed.
Travelers is claiming that many plaintiffs have sued under a joint venture theory.
So what is the problem?
Travelers claims that the engineer’s insurance policy does not cover joint ventures. This is a big deal because the Travelers insurance policy is for $11 million.
Thus, the families (and people) might be out $11 million. Unfortunately, insurance companies often try to argue that insurance coverage doesn’t apply.
And Travelers is an insurance company that has an average reputation for paying injury claims.
Can you imagine the hoops that non-standard insurance companies put policyholders through?
I can. In fact, I’ve made personal injury claims with non-standard companies like United Automobile Insurance Company, Windhaven and many others.
Those companies usually want the injured person to complete long questionnaires. They often request recorded statements. Sometimes those statements are in person.
