Calcaneus

Miami Injury Lawyer Justin Ziegler has experience representing injured accident victims who’ve fractured their calcaneus. The calcaneus is a bone in the rear of the foot, which is known as the heel bone. It helps give support to the foot and plays a big role in normal walking movements. On top of the calcaneus, the joint allows the foot to rotate in and out. The tarsal bones consist of the calcaneus, cuboid, navicular and other bones.

A fracture of the calcaneus usually occurs from injuries such as a fall from above the ground. Examples of this include falling of a ladder or roof. In our personal injury claim against a store, our client, a shopper, tripped on a container in the middle of the aisle. Her foot may have lifted of the ground and then came crashing to the ground. Calcaneus fractures also may occur from car accidents and injuries while engaging in sports.

The calcaneus may also have a stress fracture, which can occur in athletes from the prolonged use of a body part. Stress are not acute (occurring quickly) fractures. Some of the symptoms of a calcaneus fracture may that the injured person cannot walk. This occurred in the shopper’s claim at a store. Other symptoms include swelling and bruising of the foot, which our client also had. Severe heel pain may indicate that a calcaneus fracture is present.

Generally speaking, calcaneus fractures are closed fractures, which basically mean that the skin does not break. Our client had a closed fracture. Other injured victims may have a calcaneus fracture which busts through the skin, and is an open fracture or compound fracture. Our law firm has experience representing victims who have had open fractures. Our client went to the hospital in Miami shortly after her accident, but when an open fracture occurs, the injured victim is usually rushed to the hospital.

Doctors take care of calcaneus fractures by casting it or sometimes operating on the fracture. When the calcaneus is non-displaced, or not out of its usual position, the doctor may cast the calcaneus.
