Operative Report for our client who had surgery on her foot after being injured at Winn Dixie

The operative report lists the preoperative diagnosis as 1. Left foot tailor's bunion deformity. 2. Left foot fifth toe hammertoe deformity.

The postoperative diagnosis was 1. Left foot tailor's bunion deformity. 2. Left foot fifth toe hammertoe deformity.

The operation was 1. Oblique metaphyseal osteotomy with rigid internal fixation of the fifth metatarsal of the left foot. 2. Proximal interphalangeal joint arthroplasty with derotational oseteoplasty of the fifth digit of the left foot. The surgeon was Jaime A. Carboneell, D.P.M. and first assistant was Francisco Lopez Burmudez, D.P.M.

Anesthesia: Monitored anesthesia care with intravenoues sedation combined with a local nerve conduction block consisting of a 50:50 mixture of 2% lidocaine plain with 0.5% Marcaine plain totaling 10 cubic centimeters were infiltrated into the patient's left foot in the form of a fifth ray block.

Hemostasis: For hemostasis, a left above ankle pneumatic tourniquet was inflated to a pressure of 250 millimeters of mercury after an Esmarch bandage exsanguination of the left lower extremity was performed.

The materials were: 1. One 2.0 fully threaded cortical stainless steel screw. 2. 4-0 Vicryl suture. 3. 5-0 Monocryl suture 4. 4-0 Prolene suture.

Injectables were  7 cubic centimeters of plain 0.5% Marcaine were injected at the end of surgery.

The indications for the procedure were our injured client is 52-year-old female who presented to the Jackson Community Hospital operating room for surgical correction of a left foot tailor's bunion and a left foot fifth toe and a left foot fifth toe hammertoe deformity. The patient states that she has pain to the fifth toe and fifth metatarsal area every day during the use of normal shoegear.  She has had this pain for a long time now, and states that these deformities produce pain during walking. Conservative treatments have proven unsuccesfful in providing lasting satisfactory alleviation of the symptoms for the patient.
