The scaphoid is a tiny bone in the wrist and the most common bone to break.  It is located on the thumb side of the wrist, where the wrist goes back and forth.  The scaphoid is located above the radius. The scaphoid can be seen between the thumb tendons. 

The scaphoid can be seen when the thumb is kept in the position of a hitch hiker.  When there is pain and sensitivity in the scaphoid area, this may be a sign that it is injured.  Scaphoid Fractures generally occur when the hand is stretched out, and the weight falls on the palm.  Sometimes, the radius will also be broken as the result of the fall, but it depends on the exact position of the entire hand when landing.  As in our personal injury lawsuit against KS & P Restaurants, LLC (d/b/a Denny's), injured accident victims often see a doctor due to swelling and pain. 

Pain and swelling in the wrist will usually cause a person with a scaphoid fracture to see a doctor. Children may fracture their scaphoid, as well as people of every age.  Scaphoid fractures are common in car accidents. Males in their twenties are most likely to receive this fracture.  Medical research has not shown that any diseases or risks contribute to scaphoid fractures.  If the wrist is not deformed, it is difficult to tell that the scaphoid bone is fractured.  It can mask itself as a sprained wrist.
